About
MY GOAL: To work in the entertainment industry in Editing, Art Direction, Directing, Script writing, set photography, and acting. Basically where my passion and life takes me. I have my own script and story ideas I am working on. I could also be open to working with the Theatrical community here in Los Angeles, but in a film making editing writing capacity. I am SAG AFTRA so unless it is an Actors Equity House I can not perform as an actor. Over all I have a need to act and a need to be creative and to be a part of good stories and work that promotes organic positive change. I have 15 years of experience being in and around the film industry and art world here in Los Angeles in addition to my experience in the class room and life.
I finished a Certificate in Digital Media at Santa Monica college where my focus was primarily on editing and Photo shop, though I also know After Effects. I am not an illustrator. I did take drawing classes more because I knew it is not my talent and I felt I needed it before taking story boarding. I also have a certificate from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts summer program and I am one class short of a certificate in Film Production from Santa Monica. I only needed Film 33 but was not allowed to complete the program.
I have a Theater and Business Economics degrees from McDaniel College where I joined the following honor societies: Phi Beta Kappa (Liberal Arts), Pi Gamma Mu (Social Sciences), Omicron Delta Epsilon (International Economics), and Alpha Psi Omega (Drama). I specialized in Acting in REALISM and Modern Drama. In college I also worked for Richard Dillman, now retired, for the Communication Department at the school for free as an Operations Manager for their film equipment office. The position allowed me to have access to their graphic computer so I could teach myself graphic art on a professional level Mac back in the 1990s. I also would work with other students who were working on film projects and learned old school video editing. I was a Maryland Distinguished Scholar, gifted in Social Studies and received a Trustee Scholarship from McDaniel College that covered full tuition. Post college my first job was Round House Theater for their children’s camp and marketing and administrative offices.
I also have a MASTERS in PERFORMING ARTS MANAGEMENT from AMERICAN UNIVERSITY where I specialized in CASTING, TV Film Acting, Marketing and Critical Theory, and also was known as a Photographer and Actor. I studied TV and Film Acting and Audition techniques in addition to taking a class in experimental Photography. I was the GRADUATE STUDENT COUNSEL SECRETARY for two years and created a news letter for the Graduate Students. It was an elected position. My thesis was on the legal case of NEA vs Finley. I studied Entertainment law and was fascinated by the French Concept of Droit Morale. I presented papers on the arts and First Amendment and Droit Morale for school symposiums.
At American I also interned for the school organizing students as a Casting Agent for various jobs, including a birthday party of Larry King and helped at an Open call searching for an actor to play Robin (as in Batman). A photo of mine was published and I had an image win an award in a show.
At Santa Monica College I have trained in Avid, Final Cut, Premiere Pro, Photo Shop, Illustrator, Light Room, After Effects, and Pro Tools. I skipped Beginner Script Writing and took Advanced instead. I have used Final Draft, and Celtx. My GPA at Santa Monica College was a 3.6.
At Santa Monica College I trained for the first time in Digital Photography. I have taken all the Photo Shop Classes at Santa Monica with the exception of the advanced Photo Shop class in the Photography Program. I write a blog about art on line and take most of the pictures for the site but I have a Canon 20D that has issues. I have learned to take some of the bad photos my camera takes and turn them into usable images for my journalism. I had cancer in 2005 and I will not be going back to using film. Samples of my images can be found on the link to Deviant Art above.
I spent a year taking pictures for Demotix, a citizen journalist website based out of the UK, and even received an email from my editor contact, Wais Bashir, that I was one of their best reporters. To my surprise my images had been seen by over 10,000 people. The site was sold and I hold the rights to all images as I never received payment for any of them. In fact if the new owners are still trying to sell any of those images or have made money off of them, they owe me restitution.
I have also been a THEATER JOURNALIST writing theatrical reviews for Examiner.com, Yo Venice, Arts Beat LA, NOHO Arts District, and I have been listed in BeterLemons.com. I am also a POET and I have read my poetry at the Down Town Art Walk, Beyond Baroque and at the Electric Lodge in Venice. I also was a set photographer on the video “Time To Go” for Kwanza Jones.
I also own the name ARTICITIC HOPE and WOMEN LOVE PEACE. They are my business names. Artistic Hope is my website about Art Giving Back. It is not a non profit as I advocate for the Arts. It is my passion project. H.O.P.E. Stands for Holistic Organic Philanthropic Expression. The name is registered in Los Angeles and has been mine since 2010 and “Women Love Peace” has been mine since 2006.
I have a law degree from Catholic University in Washington DC but I do not have the personality of a lawyer. (I can play one as an actor). I worked for Court TV for a year in law school. The Kennedy Center in their Legal Department. (I am not licensed to practice Law as I resigned from the California Bar).
My acting and poetry can be found on my site LauraAnnTull.com. You can also find me on IMDB.
